Orgy's Jay Gordon

By Jay Oakley

With your current tour, where are you now?

We were in Las Vegas last night, the final night of our tour.

Do you have some time off now coming up?

Yeah, two months.

What do you have coming up for your next series of shows? Is it going to be a headlining tour?

No, we're direct support for Filter.

Well, you have some new music out with a new EP, Talk Sick. Talk a bit about that.

Yeah, we just put out a new EP two months ago and we're just trying to maximize our efforts. We're going to release a full length later in the summer.

When it comes to everything you do with your band, Orgy as well as everything you do with other bands like producing, etc. Do you ever have an issues taking care of your band and then taking the time to produce other bands or does is seem to go pretty hand in hand?

They go hand in hand. It's just a different criteria but the same situation pretty much.

In the late 90s when you have everything going really well for Orgy and you guys were at your peak, what seemed to change that caused Orgy to go on hiatus after your third album, Punk Statik Paranoia?

Everyone wanted to do their own thing and we pretty much didn't get back together. Then I pretty much got tired of waiting around and pondered about what I was going to do. I knew it was going to be something I just wasn't sure how I wanted to go about it and then put the band together and got back out there.

How is touring feeling for you know as opposed to back then?

Awesome. I totally love it.

With the full length that you're putting out later this year, does it have an official release date?

No, just in the summer.

With the downtime you have now between this tour's end and the tour with Filter do you have any particular plans for that time or are you going to just relax and prepare for it?

Just finish off the new record and stuff like that.

Jay, something I was really curious to hear your opinion on was back in the 90s and early 2000s your band always had a lot of very visual music videos when you were putting them out. Granted, so much has changed now. MTV, VH1 , those channels really don't exist much anymore but your videos were always very eye-catching. Was that something you always wanted to do?

I think everyone was very involved with the way we wanted to look and come across, visually speaking.

I'd like you to share your opinion about all the great people in music leaving us. Was there anyone who we've lost recently who really influenced you and what you do in music?

Yeah, Bowie. Absolutely, he was definitely one of my biggest influences.

For fans who are new to Orgy or may only know you from your videos "Blue Monday" or "Dreams In Digital," if they are seeing you for the first time what do they have to look forward to?

A real high energy, impact show. We are going to pretty much chronologically go over the first couple records and definitely the newer stuff so it's a 50/50 split on that and it's going to be a good show so they get to look forward to that.

So the band that you have together that is recording the new album, is that the same band that recorded the EP?

Yes.

Do you produce your own albums, Jay?

Yeah, most of it.

I really want to thank you for letting me call in and taking some time to ask some questions about the past, the new album and what fans have to look forward to.

Yeah, absolutely. No worries, I don't mind at all. Thanks so much and I appreciate you having me on.
